The Detentions, Dan Sullivan and Chris Hillier, released their third studio album, aptly titled “Three” in 2013. It was produced by Ron Flynt (20/20 Band, The Drakes) at his Jumping Dog Studios in Austin, TX.

The Detentions style of music, known as “Rockamole” to their fans, is a fresh breath of Hill Country happy hour meeting chords from the Gulf Coast. Their sound include jangly guitars, tight harmonies, honest lyrics, and memorable melodies.

The album “Three” features ten songs, including covers of Donny Brewer’s “Fishin’ on Credit” and the Great Divide’s “Pour Me a Vacation.” The tunes “A Little Less Beer on the Island” and “Liki Tiki” are instantly familiar as a Port Aransas sunset. They show their Texas side in “Terlingua” and their love of a good ghost story with the haunting “Lantern on the Tracks.” While the beautiful “Shining” celebrates the love you have, “Not that Girl” ponders what could have been, and “Ash and Smoke” explores the dangers of decisions made in the heat of passion. Beautiful and heart breaking, “The Window,” closes the album remembering those who are gone but not forgotten.

The Detentions assembled an all-star line-up of Austin’s finest to play on “Three:” Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson), Warren Hood (Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris), Marvin Dykhuis (Ray Wylie Hubard, Woody Guthrie), Chip Dolan (Bruce Robison, Jimmy Lafave), Donny Brewer (Live Like Jimmy Buffett, Zimzala), and Ron Flynt (20/20 Band, The Drakes).
