BIO

Dan Sullivan was born in Wichita, KS and raised in Kansas City, MO. The mid-western work ethic and easy going nature flows through him and his music. The first time Dan saw the ocean  he was five years old. It was down in Corpus Christi where he and his brother played in the surf and sang Beach Boy tunes at the top of their lungs. The Gulf of Mexico still haunts his soul and his music. So much so, that after college, Dan took his guitar and songbook out to sea working for various cruise lines. After two and a half years of sailing and salting, Dan landed in Austin, TX. It's been home ever since. Dan proudly declares his music as "Trop Rock." Inspired by the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Robert Earl Keen, Walt Wilkins and Jerry Jeff Walker, Dan co-founded the three-time TRMA award winning duo and national touring act, The Detentions. You can hear their songs Coast and Sunburned on Sirius XM Radio Margaritaville as well as other national Trop Rock radio stations. He has performed for songwriter showcases at The Bluebird Cafe, Kerrville Folk Festival, Pardi-Gras Music Festival in New Orleans, Pirates and Poets Showcases in Riviera Maya, Mexico, Port Aransas, Galveston, TX and in Key West, FL. He has also opened for Hall of Fame songwriter, Mac McAnally and Texas legend, Joe Ely. When he's not playing solo or with his band, you'll find Dan with his toes in the sand in Port Aransas or Terlingua, TX.
