The Detentions, Dan Sullivan and Chris Hillier, released their self-titled sophomore album in No-vember of 2013. Produced by one of Austin’s finest, Ron Flynt, The Detentions captures all the fun and folky vibe of the duo’s live show. Also, Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen Band) and Sweet Basil McJagger (The Derailers) make guest appearances on the album. The Detentions features Austin Songwriters Group 2013 “Best Country Song” nominee, Smoke and Beers. Sweet Basil’s haunting accordion leads you down the road less traveled in Mama Said. And Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey, playfully closes out this album that feels as comfortable as a Hill Country happy hour. The Detentions performed as a Regional Finalist at the 2012 Kerr-ville New Folk Competition. They've also opened for Texas legend, Joe Ely and most recently for Nashville Hall of Fame Songwriter and six-time CMA musician of the year, Mac McAnally.

The Detentions, Dan Sullivan and Chris Hillier, released their third studio album, aptly titled “Three” in 2013. It was produced by Ron Flynt (20/20 Band, The Drakes) at his Jumping Dog Studios in Austin, TX.

The Detentions style of music, known as “Rockamole” to their fans, is a fresh breath of Hill Country happy hour meeting chords from the Gulf Coast. Their sound include jangly guitars, tight harmonies, honest lyrics, and memorable melodies.

The album “Three” features ten songs, including covers of Donny Brewer’s “Fishin’ on Credit” and the Great Divide’s “Pour Me a Vacation.” The tunes “A Little Less Beer on the Island” and “Liki Tiki” are instantly familiar as a Port Aransas sunset. They show their Texas side in “Terlingua” and their love of a good ghost story with the haunting “Lantern on the Tracks.” While the beautiful “Shining” celebrates the love you have, “Not that Girl” ponders what could have been, and “Ash and Smoke” explores the dangers of decisions made in the heat of passion. Beautiful and heart breaking, “The Window,” closes the album remembering those who are gone but not forgotten.

The Detentions assembled an all-star line-up of Austin’s finest to play on “Three:” Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson), Warren Hood (Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris), Marvin Dykhuis (Ray Wylie Hubard, Woody Guthrie), Chip Dolan (Bruce Robison, Jimmy Lafave), Donny Brewer (Live Like Jimmy Buffett, Zimzala), and Ron Flynt (20/20 Band, The Drakes).

What is the true story behind The Detentions and Rockamole? Some say The Detentions were there when that first country singer decided to write a song about the beach. Others claim The Detentions were born the first time someone experienced a cold beer with sand between their toes. In certain cultures, the first hangover of the summer is dedicated to the spirit of The Detentions. Stone carvings and hieroglyphs recently discovered in a secret burial chamber high in the Andes mountains depict a pair of guitarists in shorts, riding an enormous bejeweled flying machine powered by fermented beverages. Ancient Andean flying gods of Rockamole or The Detentions? Could they be the last survivors from a long distant planet populated by an alien race of acoustic happy hour musicians? Rock n Roll homunculi secretly created in an underground laboratory by Jimmy Buffet and Freddy Mercury? The answer is: Does it really matter? The Detentions exist to bring the Rockamole to Detainiacs in every beer hole, juke joint, back yard, speakeasy, dance hall, driveway, rec center, boutique, holiday party, wedding reception, tailgate, birthday, BBQ, roadhouse, tourist bar and beach shanty. Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have a cold one in front of you, raise it high, raise it proud, turn to your neighbors and say, "I LOVE ROCKAMOLE!" Dan Sullivan and Chris Hillier thank you for your support!
